Future Farming Resilience Fund
What is the Future Farming Resilience Fund?
The Future Farming Resilience Fund (FFRF) was set up to help farmers adopt newer, more sustainable farming techniques. It can provide free business advice and support to improve productivity, animal health and welfare, and environmental land management.
The FFRF was introduced by Defra in 2021 after cuts to the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS). BPS payments will cease completely by 2027, so farmers should start looking into funding from the FFRF now.
Farming in England is changing and it’s a good idea to make plans for the future to ensure your farm is compliant with all laws and regulations and as productive as possible to safeguard your future income. This is more important than ever since the Autumn Budget which proposed the withdrawal of inheritance tax relief for farmland.
The Agricultural Transition Plan
The Government’s Agricultural Transition Plan from 2021 – 2027 focuses on sustainable farming practices, reducing carbon emissions, creating habitats for nature recovery and other environmental improvements. As well as the FFRF, various grants are available to help farmers adopt more environmentally friendly practices, like the Sustainable Farming Incentive, Countryside Stewardship, Slurry Investment Scheme, and more.
How Farmers Can Access the FFRF
Farmers can get free support from agricultural consultancies, from one-to-one support and farm visits to tailored recommendations and workshops. Farmers who need to find new sources of income after the BPS cuts can learn about new schemes and funding options through the FFRF. The NFU worked with Defra to make sure the FFRF is fit for purpose for the farmers who need it, offering a good choice of providers across the country. You can find out more about the FFRF by visiting this page on the government website.
